Bella's 19th : part 7

"-ella!....Bella stop screaming!" Edward shouted as he shook me. The ringing in my ears had stopped, and when did I start screaming? My eyes rose back to Alice's face, she looked like she was concentrating on something and I followed her gaze down to her arm. I watched in amazement as her skin stretched slowly closing up each slice of her skin. "She's not in pain is she?" I asked Edward with curiosity in my voice. He just laughed. "If anything she's uncomfortable. Remember how tough our skin is." He said matter-of-factly. Alice then tore off part of her shredded shirt and wiped the blood off of her arm. I stared at her, my jaw hanging open. There wasn't even one scar where there had been scratches. I turned to Edward "Now won't you be happy when I can heal myself like that." I told him. "Sure, put me out of a job." he just shook his head and turned to Alice. "What happened?" he asked. "I was checking up on Charlie, for Bella. He wasn't in the house so I left, and Jacob and his pack were waiting." Alice looked to the floor. "I'm sorry Bella. They took Charlie to La Push so we can't watch him." Edward and Alice exchanged glances, and thoughts apparently. "We'll be back in a minute." Edward said as he and Alice headed downstairs. Curiosity got the better of me and I waited for a minute before following them. I was lucky that my clumsiness wasn't around to get the better of me as I snuck my way down the stairs. I was just outside the dining room when I heard Alice's voice. I froze in place to listen. "They want to fight." Alice started. "Jacob Black is very angry about the wedding. He told me he wants Bella back and will kill us in the process. Apparently what he did to me was a warning." She waved the last part off as if it was nothing. Edwards voice was low. "Does he know I bit her?" Alice shook her head. "I don't think so." By now I was so mad at Jacob that I could tear him apart myself. I turned around and took the stairs two at a time back up to Edward's room. I started to pace the length of his room, my blood boiling beneath my skin. "What was he thinking taking Charlie like that. This doesn't concern him." I muttered to myself in a low voice. I hadn't noticed my breathing or body temperature increase until I started screaming. "OH MY GOD! EDWARD IT BURNS!" I fell to the floor twisting in pain, panting furiously trying to catch my breath. I turned onto my stomach and tried to crawl to the door. tears streaming over my face. Edward was in front of me before I knew it, carrying me to the sofa. "What happened?" he looked horrified. " I DON'T KNOW! I'M ON FIRE!" I was still screaming. He pulled my body against his and started to hum softly. His frozen body wasn't helping the fire, but his voice was calming me down. Somewhere in the middle of his melody I passed out from the pain.

I fought against something holding me down. As I struggled under the weight I started to pant and I let out a small growl as my eyes flew open. "Let go of me Jacob!" I yelled at Edward. He backed up and stared at me in shock. I sat up and started to cry from the pain it gave me. "Why...am I...sweating?" I asked confused. "You've been struggling against me all day." He told me. I wiped the sweat from my face and laid back down on my side. "I've hardly had any time with you. I'm sorry Edward." I started to cry."It's ok Bella. What happened though?" He asked me. I didn't want to tell him that I was eavesdropping on him..but I wanted to tell someone what I felt. "I'm not sure. I started to feel hot and the pain started right after. Maybe Carlisle will know." I suggested. He nodded and stood up. "I'll call him and ask." Edward said as he walked out. I thought fast.

Alice - was involved
Jasper - still new to the lifestyle
Emmett - would want to fight
Rosalie - maybe, she might tell Emmett - then again, fighting

I decided on Esme, she wouldn't judge me, or so I hoped. I darted silently out of the room and down the hall passing doors on my way. I saw Jasper stick his head out and look at me curiously. I found Esme in her room. She greeted me, as I closed the door behind me. "May I ask you a question?" I started hoping not to sound strange. "Of course Bella." She said sweetly. I couldn't hold it back anymore so I blurted the whole thing out. "Well... Alice got hurt going to check on Charlie for me then I overheard her and Edward talking about the werewolves taking him to La Push and wanting to fight you all, over getting me back and it made me so mad that I started pacing then I got upset and hot and then the burning and pain started and I passed out. Why did it start up without warning?" I ranted until I was out of breath. She embraced me in her arms. "So that's why you were screaming." She said. "Please don't tell Edward or Alice I spied on them." I begged her. "It's ok Bella. I'm not sure why it started suddenly like that. Carlisle will be back soon we'll discuss it with him, just the three of us how does that sound?" She reassured me she wouldn't tell the others and hugged me. As I walked to the door I stopped and turned around. "It's strange...I've noticed some things. It took me less than a minute to sprint from Edward's room to yours...and when I heard Edward and Alice talking they were whispering, but I heard them plain as day. I'm also much less clumsy now." I smiled and opened the door, making my way back to Edward's room. He hadn't made it back yet, probably still on the phone with Carlisle. I sat down on the sofa and tried to relax myself. Edward appeared in the doorway. "Carlisle has some things to catch up on he'll be home at midnight or so. We have a two hour wait." He said as he sat down with me. "Are you hungry?" He asked. I hadn't really thought about food all day. "Hmm.. you know... I haven't been hungry all day." I said strangely. "Weird huh?" I chuckled. Edward just eyed me curiously. As we waited we caught up by talking about anything that came to mind. The time always seemed to fly when I talked to Edward. I suddenly jumped up as I heard Carlisle's car heading up towards the house. I watched as Esme raced past the doorway and down the stairs. I smiled with relief. I waited impatiently for them as they talked downstairs while Edward watched me suspiciously. Eventually I heard Carlisle ask me to come downstairs. I gave Edward a quick apologetic glance and ran down to meet them.

I went over my story again with both of them, even the part of some of my vampire abilities showing up so soon. "Well Bella, the only thing I can think of is this-" Carlisle motioned, waving his right hand. "You've seen when a werewolf gets angry how it forces the transformation right?" He asked. I nodded as he waved his other hand. "Well what's happening to you I think might be a little similar. You reacted to Jacob's violence towards Alice and his taking your father with anger, which of course got your blood pumping faster. Since the venom is working it's way through your blood at normal pace when you get angry or excited it speeds up the process. Also since you're starting to experience some effects this early you might be fully changed before the three days are up." It all seemed so much to comprehend. Carlisle looked at my expression. "Are you in pain now?" He asked with concern. "Yes, I've grown used to it right now though." I said in a low voice. "Thank you for explaining it." I turned and started to climb the stairs slowly, knowing what was waiting for me at the top. "Bella. Please try not to exert yourself and let the transformation run it's course." Carlisle shouted up at me. I continued my way up and stopped outside of Edward's room. He would be mad I knew it, but I was prepared for him..and whatever he would say to me.
